2010 - Rooflections v Dees
A great win to finish off a promising season!
What a nice way to end the season. The media hype in the lead up to this game seemed focussed on how well the Dees had developed this year. Did Shane Crawford really tip the Dees to win this game by 39 points plus?
Given that we had more significant outs than Melbourne I can’t say I was all that confident leading into this game. How wrong I was.
Great to see the boys quick out of the box – a few early goals gave us a bit of a run. The Dees kept coming every time we looked like kicking away but we fought back each time. It was one of those games where I never felt confident during the game but we were always in front or in touch.
Levi had a break out game – 39 touches. What an effort. Boomer did what Boomer usually does and was one of our best and Wellsy capped off what I think is his best season yet with his silky skills making a significant contribution to the win. Add to that Ben Warrens hot form, Spuds great defensive work, Spitta’s fabulous game and we had enough to take the points.
And let’s not forget two of the Northerners’s favourite sons. Corey Jones retired with a fabulous three goal game. Sad to see Corey leave the club but let’s wish him all the best in what he does next – great bloke and good friend of the coterie. Good friend number two, Leigh Harding, ended the day unwell in hospital. Lets hope he is fit and well soon.

So to the year in review. Win eleven and lose eleven. Not a bad result – just a bit of percentage out of the final eight. That Bombers game will stick in my craw.
We can take a lot from this season. The development of players like Zeibell, Cunnington and Bastinac, the improvement in players like Adams, Greenwood and Wells, and the great form of Boomer, Spitta and Rawlings. Surely Rawlings has to be All Australian this year.
And let’s not forget the great work of Brad Scott. His on field and off field work has been fantastic. Very impressive representative of the club who has the team showing us they can play in the big time.
Can’t wait till season 2011. How many more sleeps?
