John and I headed down to Launceston on the weekend to have a look at the boys in action at Aurora. I had never been to Launie before and there were a couple of features of the town which were fantastic. They have a city park as all decent towns do, but right in the middle of the park is Monkey Island. Yes an island with, sure enough, monkeys... Very cute and definitely worth the 15 minutes of staring at animals picking at the ground and each other.

Although dead on a Saturday night in town there was one other feature that caught our eye. As we were walking through the mall in search of food a small marsupial popped its head out of the grating around the trees and hopped across the brickwork. We were fascinated. Here was a city slicker native who was very at home in the middle of town. Living underneath the grating and coming out at night to forage for food. He looked very healthy and happy.

Onto the game on Sunday night and boy were we glad when the boys kicked a goal, as this gave us all the opportunity to stamp our feet in the grandstand to try and warm up. Being an outdoor stadium and right on the water the wind whistled through the stands and froze our proverbials. I was glad the game was a sell out as this helped everyone keep the warmth in.

Rugged up to the nines in my North Melbourne jacket, beanie, scarf and gloves (I really need to get to the store to see if there are NM gloves) it was cold and windy but the stadium itself is in pretty good shape and we thought it was a better facility than Gold Coast.

We saw a couple of the boys in town and they were all hoping for a dry game. Memories of their last wet and cold game there still haunting them. You could have thought it was a North Melbourne home game with the amount of noise our section of the stand was making. At one point the cheer squad even turned and stared at the group. We would definitely go again but next time I will take some thermals. If you are heading down we can recommend some good eating spots as well.

I saw a couple of other Northerners there as well, good to see you getting around to the games. Share your experience as well.
